Reason 10 of 12 why believers or Christians pray: Because we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against forces of darkness which are overcome through praying in the spirit

Ephesians 6: 10-18 – Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.

We stated at the beginning of this 10th reason why do believers or Christians pray that in order for us to overcome spiritual wickedness in the heavenly places we have to pray in the spirit. Before we begin to look at what it means to pray in the spirit let us first look at the stage being set by the apostle Paul. What did the apostle Paul begin by saying? Verse 10-11 – Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

The apostle is saying that the believer or the Christian is at war. We are in a war by putting on the whole armour and praying in the spirit. The armour will enable us to stand against the wiles of the devil, while praying in the spirit will diminish and destroy that which is not seen or known.

The armour of God

Let’s look at the armour. http://www.wikihow.com/Put-on-the-Armor-of-God

The Belt (of Truth): “Stand firm in the belt of truth buckled around your waist” Ephesians 6:14. The belt of truth involves two places; our hearts and our minds. Truth keeps us secure in Christ and makes effective all the other pieces of armour. The belt of truth holds our amour in place. Commit yourself daily to walk in the light of God’s truth. “Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth!” Psalm 86:11

The Breastplate (of Righteousness): “with the breastplate of righteousness in place,” Ephesians 6:14 – A soldier with a breastplate goes into battle boldly with confidence. The devil is constantly attacking with lies, accusations and reminders of past sin. Without the breastplate of righteousness, these will penetrate your heart. Become aware of who you are in Christ Jesus. Come boldly into His presence (Hebrews 4:16).

The Shoes (of Peace & Preparation): “For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.” Ephesians 6:15 – Shoes allow us to step freely and without fear while we turn our full attention to the battle at hand. They aid in our movement and defence. The shoes God gives propel us onward to proclaim the true peace, which is available in Christ. Prepare yourself to follow the Lord no matter what.

The Shield (of Faith): “Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.” Ephesians 6:16 – The shield not only defends our whole body but also our armour. The shield of faith has a very specific function, which the Bible makes abundantly clear: quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Not some but all of them. The shield moves with the attack no matter the direction.

The Helmet (of Salvation): “Take the helmet of salvation.” Ephesians 6:17 – Satan’s target: Your mind. Satan’s weapon: Lies. The enemy wants to make us doubt God and our salvation. The helmet protects our minds from doubting the truth of God’s saving work for us. “Since we belong to the day, we must be serious and put the armour of faith and love on our chests, and put on a Helmet of the Hope of Salvation” 1 Thessalonians 5:8

The Sword (of The Spirit): Put on “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:17 – The sword is the only weapon of offense in the armour, but it is also a tool for defence. Strongholds, arguments and thoughts are all weapons the enemy uses against us. With the Sword of the Spirit, God’s word, the people are equipped to deal with them all. We need to trust in the truth of God’s Word. Have confidence in the value of God’s word. Get a hunger and desire for it.

Prayer. “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” Ephesians 6:18

We know that when it comes to this subject matter the church is divided to what actually is praying in the spirit. Some may interpret it as praying from the heart. If the Holy Spirit who is the inspirer behind the writing of the word of God meant to say heart, He would have told the apostle Paul to write the word heart. Therefore when the apostle write praying in the spirit, we believe it is literal.

So what is praying in the spirit? Praying in the spirit is the ability of the Holy Spirit (which has come upon you) enabling you to speak in the tongue or the tongues of angels who minister before God.

1 Corinthians 13: 1 – Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

Acts 2:1-4 – When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11 – There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
Why did we point out all of these scriptures, in order for you to see when the bible talks about praying in the spirit it means praying in the spirit and not praying from the heart. We tell you why the devil has deceived many to believe otherwise. When you are praying in the spirit you are bypassing the understanding of the devil. Remember he is no more a servant of God therefore he lacks the understanding of the tongues of angels.

How can we fight a spiritual war with a physical understanding? You are beating the air. If we are in a spiritual warfare which is not against flesh and blood, that means it takes the spirit to fight against the spirit of darkness. Nothing else will give you the edge beside the Holy Spirit which pray through you with different kinds of tongues and the devil cannot stand it.

What does the word of God say in 1 Corinthians 14:2? – For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him however in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

Can your mind comprehend you speaking to God with the tongues of angels, in the presence of God? Oh my God how wonderful is it to know that you can have and speak with the tongues of angels as you pray? If you do not have this gift begin to desire and pray that the Lord with fill you with His Spirit which will enable you to speak with the tongues of angels. Or you can believe the lies of the devil through his false teachers that you cannot have this gift.

Remember there’s a war going on and we are caught in the firing line. You can say enough is enough and begin to ask the Father to give you the fullness of His Spirit

Luke 11:13 – If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!

Has anyone told you God the Father is anxious to give you the fullness of His Spirit? If no one did, we are saying to you right now if you ask the Father right now you will receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit with a new tongue to fight against the evil of darkness.

This is why every believer or Christian needs to pray. Because we are not fighting against flesh and blood. The evil one is hiding behind flesh and blood because he is a spirit. That is why we need to flush him out through praying in the spirit. Let no one deceive you through the spirit of deception that speaking in tongues is not of God or it needs to be understood by man. No, when you speak in tongues or with the tongues of angels you are speaking to God the Father and you should not bother if any one likes it or not. We can assure you only the devil and those that are his will reject you. And if they reject you, come and be a part of those who have the liberty to speak to the heavenly Father with the tongues He has given us to speak to Him. And begin to experience the changes that are going to take place in your life and in the life of your family. Praying in the spirit always is the antidote to the devil and his agents? This is why we pray because we are not fighting against flesh and blood, but against powers of darkness and you and I need the tongues of angels to become overcomers.

Posted in Why do Christians or believers pray?

Reason 9 of 12 why believers or Christians pray? Because of the other believers or Christians who are sick amongst us to become and to be healed.

praying-hands 2James 5:14-15- Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

The epistle of James tells us to pray for the sick. We are not going to go into the point of the elders or who is an elder and all of that. Because we believe that every believer or Christian should be able to pray by faith and it is the prayer of faith that will heal the sick. It is not the elder but the prayer of faith that will save the sick according to the word of God. Does this mean we disregard elders that are within the local church? God forbid, we, on the contrary, emphasize on the importance of the prayer that will heal the sick than on the individual who is the elder.

Mark 9:14-29 -And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them. 15 Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him. 16 And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?” 17 Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit.18 And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.” 19 He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.” 20 Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth. 21 So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” 25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it: “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” 26 Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. 28 And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” 29 So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.

Let us look at the account we just read; when Jesus had left some of the disciples and took Peter, James and John on a high mountain to go and pray, this father brought his son to the rest of the disciples in the absence of Jesus Christ. They could not heal him and what did Jesus Christ say? He answered him and said, “O faithless generation. They lacked faith, these were forks walking with Jesus Christ and we can see that they lacked faith!

We have come across many that hold the titles without faith to see the sick healed and delivered. It’s one thing to use words and it is another thing to have faith in the word who is Jesus Christ.

Luke 18:8  I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?

I worked with a church in 2008 – 2009. The pastor and his wife had a daughter who was marred. This couple was in desperate need of children. Whenever the wife conceived, along the way she had miscarriage or other complications and ended up losing the child. In 2008 this lady, the daughter of the pastor again conceived and gave birth to a premature baby which endangered the life of the child. The wife of the pastor’s, faith was in technology and the doctors as she prayed for her grandchild. We singled out the wife of the pastor because she was the one we spoke with. It took a week and the child died. Does this mean we do not believe in the medical advancement of today? On the contrary, we speak of faith of which we lack understanding today. Of which many believe they have but have not. We thank God for the knowledge we have today and the technology which has revolutionised our medical system, to God be the glory. Trusting in this system is not wrong because they are delivering the goods. Lives are being saved and we are thankful to the Lord for the knowledge we have.

Daniel 12:4 – But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.

There’s a difference between the system and God. This is why we started by saying our focus is not on the elder but on prayer. Many of our church elders today believe on the doctors more than God.

I was working in a certain church and one of the brothers of the church began to experience a swelling on his foot. It became sore and he went to the doctors. The doctors gave him some anti-biotic to take but he did not improve. He later told the pastor he could not make it to church because of the pain. When he finally made it to the church just feeling a bit better, the pastor inquired of him concerning his health and the foot. Afterwards the pastor said to him, I believe you need to apply some anointing oil on your feet to speed up the healing process. A few days passed and he was still in lots of pain. The pastor asked him, did you apply the anointing oil? No, he said. I am going to go to the doctors for more anti-biotic. Good on you mate; I believe the pastor should have said. The brother confesses he trusts God but he does not believe God could heal him through the anointing oil!

Again we want to be very clear. We believe in the medical system of our world today and we have been blessed by our God to give us such knowledge. We believe it is the right of the believer or Christian to call 000 or 911 and request for the medical emergency. What we do not believe is the believer or Christian whose trust is in the medical system more than faith in God. This we believe and know is not and cannot be called faith. Going back to the text James 5:14-15, if there is a sick person among us the bible recommends prayer. This act of prayer indicates that my trust is in our God. When we have first prayed and then we call on 000 or 911 for help it shows that we have surrendered the situation to the one we trust and the one we trust, who is our God will use the medical system to bring restoration back to us and this is faith. This is faith in God, standing on the word of God for your life. But what happen while I’m praying I die? You know what happens you are going to your true home, where sickness cannot come, where Jesus Christ and God the father dwell, where you will receive a glorious body that cannot be corrupted by sin through the self.

But you may say, I’m not ready to go there yet. I still want to enjoy the pleasures of this world. With such choice comes the question of your faith and whom or what you trust in?

Going back to the text Luke 18:8, do you have faith to pray for the sick in the church? If you have faith in God the father, you are an elder of faith to God the father through Jesus Christ our Lord. You are not an elder to man but to God. And God through Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit is working with you and through you for the brethren to be healed.

Will Jesus Christ find faith on the earth when He comes? Do you still have faith in God through His son Jesus Christ or has your faith been seduced by man’s doctrine and science? We would like to say to you faith in God through Jesus Christ is worth my wife and I’s life than trust in this world and it’s so called life. God is looking for those who will fully trust Him and have their faith in Him. Let’s read what God says in His word.

Romans 10:11-13- For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

There is no distinction between the once with the titles and you if you put your trust in the Lord as they also put their trust in the Lord you will not be put to shame. You will pray for the sick and they will recover and be healed. What a blessing it is to know why we are to pray. We encourage you today to rise up and begin to pray for the brethren who are sick and the prayer of faith will heal them. Amen.

Reason 8 of 12 why believers or Christians pray? To intercede for each other as believers.

  1. praying-hands 2Why do believers or Christians pray? To intercede for each other as believers.

James 5:16 – Confess your trespassesto one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

James declares to the believers that we must pray for one another as we confess our trespasses to each other, an act that is not practiced as often as should be amongst believers or Christians today. If we could go back to the word of God and begin to do according to what it says, we believe our walk with the Lord will become better and better each day and also our lives will be the carrier of the glory of the Lord. We will become the light of the world that Jesus Christ spoke about. James in his epistle said confess and pray for each other.

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

When the word of God speaks about confessing your faults to one another, it was in the spirit of encouraging and building up each other. This has nothing to do with confessing to the priest and so on. This is the brotherly love that should exist within the body of the church. It is not for us to have as a conversation when we meet others that which has been told to us by someone else. Because of the lack of trust in the body of the church today people are having an outward smile with an inward fire that is overcoming them, but they trust no one to tell it to. Even though they could pray and tell it to Jesus Christ, by talking with a brother or sister in the Lord it will also help that person. Also joining them in prayers is going to be very encouraging.

Confessing our sins is important in that we are forgiven and cleansed. To God be the glory if we are brought into perfection by the grace we have received through Jesus Christ. How glorious it is for your life to become the life of Jesus Christ, manifesting Jesus Christ to the world. If we are not there yet we have to keep pressing on in faith by allowing the grace which we have received through Jesus Christ to bring us to His fullness.

How many people are lifted up when they come to know that the church was praying for them? We are told to pray for one another. We know that each church group will be praying for their members which is commendable. We want to encourage you to get out of the box of your local church and begin to see as our Lord Jesus Christ saw.

John 17:20-23-I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

Look at the example that our Lord Jesus Christ left us. When He was praying for the disciples what did He say? I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word. Jesus Christ did not just pray for His present congregation but for those who will believe. What does this mean? We are to be praying for all of those who believe and those that are yet to believe.

This is why the epistle of James tells us to pray for one another. Because that’s what they learned from the Lord and they are passing it down to us. We are to pray for every believer or Christian in and around the world. If you are a believer or a Christian and you are not praying for other believers you need to ask yourself why? Maybe you did not know. Now that you know, it is your responsibility to do so. We are to intercede for each other. Jesus Christ left this example with the disciples before us and they have left it with us.

We know that our generation is a generation of self-centeredness. If we are children of God and we have the DNA of Jesus Christ running through our vein, we know that self-centeredness is not a part of Jesus Christ. Therefore we need to break down that wall from within our lives and begin to connect with the Spirit of Jesus Christ which is within you. And He is ready for both of us to begin to intercede for the believers in and around the world. How beautiful it is to find out that you are a part of a bigger body of people and not just your small congregation. Yes you are a part of the bride of Jesus Christ of which we are also apart. Let us pray for one another as we await the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ for His bride which is the church.

Reason seven of twelve why believers or Christians pray: to humble ourselves

praying-hands 22 Chronicles 7:14 – If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Many of us as believers or Christians do not know that the act of prayer helps to keep us humble before the Lord our God. We know to be humble is having or showing a modest or low estimate of one’s importance. So whenever we go into prayer before God, we are humbling ourselves before the Lord our God. You may wonder and have a sense of understanding when it comes to prayer in our churches today. Not many of us find ourselves in prayer meetings because we believe there is nothing we have to humble ourselves for before the Lord our God. When there is a need then we come to humble ourselves. Let’s ask ourselves, are we humble because of that need? Again we are going to bring up the self that makes us to feel we do not need God because we have a good job, and is making enough money and we can buy or pay for anything we need. Therefore we do not see the need to humble and seek God in prayer. When we take worth into consideration when it comes to prayer, we can say this is why many of us today do not pray as we ought to because of our self-pride and the lifting of our heart before the Lord our God.

You may be surprised that the act of prayer is an act of humility before our Lord God. The word of God says to us if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face…..

Let us go back to the book of Genesis chapter 3. This account records the fall of mankind.

Genesis 3:1-5-Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

What did the serpent say to the woman in verse four. For God knows that the day you eat of this fruit you will not die but you will become like God knowing good and evil. What he was saying is that you will not need God any more. You yourself will become a god and you will not need to pray to God your creator anymore. Since you know what is good and what is evil you just need to follow your five senses and live your life. And this is what the bible says in the following verses…

Genesis 3:6-10– So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

The rest is history for mankind today. Again the same enemy is saying to us you don’t need to pray because you already have everything. What do you want to pray for, your health is good, job and family is good. Life is all good you don’t need to pray even though you believe in God and His son Jesus Christ. You can thank Him for your life and for the day and you are all right. Because your wealth is your protection. Those who do not have enough like the poorer nations and the people who are in those nations need to pray to God.

Prayer is not for the poor, it is also for the rich because it is the heart of humility that count before the Lord our God.

James 4:5-6 -Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

This is one of the reasons the believer or Christian pray to humble his or herself before the Lord. How good is it to be humble before the Lord!

Praying is a battle for many believers or Christians in the church today. They can easily find themselves getting involved in other church activities than finding themselves getting involved in the prayer meetings. Why? The god mentality within our nature rejects our submission to God. Not many of us has realised this; that it is pride that keeps us from praying.

Proverbs 3:5-6-Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

In order for us to acknowledge the Lord in all of our ways it has to be done in and through prayers. Do we acknowledge God the Father in all of our ways? The word of God is not saying some but in all of our ways. Let us look at the meaning of acknowledge.

Acknowledge is to accept or admit the existence or truth of or to recognize the importance or quality of.

With the understanding of the word acknowledge, what is the word of God saying to us when it says in all of your ways acknowledge the Lord and He will direct your path? We have to accept or admit the existence of the lordship of God through Jesus Christ in and over our lives. We have to recognize the importance of the lordship of Jesus Christ in and over our lives. Because He wants to guide us into the path of righteousness by the Holy Spirit which will bring into our lives joy, peace and love. If we the church, the people who are called by the name of God, the bride of Jesus Christ will acknowledge the Lord in all of what we do, our light will shine before mankind and they will see the good work of the Lord in our lives and glorify our God. If you are a believer or a Christian can we begin to humble ourselves before the God we serve in and through prayer. As the word of God said God resist the proud and gives grace to the humble.

Luke 12:16-21– Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully.17 and he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’18 So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ 21 “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

James 4:13-16– Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we willgo to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” 16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

We may have it all under control but God through Jesus Christ has it all in control. We need to humble ourselves before God and the only way we can do it is through prayer. This is why we pray to stay and keep ourselves humble if we are the people who are called by the name of the Lord God Jehovah.

Reason six of twelve why believers or Christians pray: Because we are taught to be persistent and not to lose heart or give up.

praying-hands 2Let us read about our Lord Jesus Christ teaching on persistent to the disciples.

Then He spoke a parable to them that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’”

Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”(Luke 18:1-8).

Because of the tremendous and continual wearying of the widow, Jesus said the unjust judge made a decision to plead the case of the widow. How much more the elect of the Lord. God the father will definitely come through for all those who call upon Him day and night.

The word persistent means to continue firmly or obstinately in an opinion or course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition.

Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4).

We believe in order to be persistent we also have to delight ourselves always in the Lord. Our going out and coming in should be in the Lord. Our dependence should be on the Lord. As we delight in the Lord with our being it becomes natural to pray a prayer persistently.

When we are not delighting in the Lord as we ought it becomes very hard to become determined or resolute within our prayer life. When we are not resolute in our prayer life is when we begin to have alternatives or plans B and C. If we consider prayer today in the Christian circle, you will agree with me that we are all over the place with many different doctrines. It makes it hard when you have tried all of the different points given to you in prayer and still you are not receiving an answer, then you begin to think if God is really there. Or you begin to wonder is it because of my sin God is not hearing me or because I am a very bad person that is why my prayers are not answered.

When we give our lives to God through His son Jesus Christ our sins are forgiven and He remembers them no more.

I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins. Put Me in remembrance; Let us contend together; state your case, that you may be acquitted (Isaiah 43:25 – 26).

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more (Hebrews 8:12).

So why are our prayers not answered still if God has forgiven our sins? Firstly we must address the difference between a saint and a sinner.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

This scripture shows us that before the eyes of God the father the whole world has sinned therefore making all of mankind sinners. We are all sinners before God. And if we are sinners what is expected of us? Sin is what we will do in the morning, afternoon and evening. We will sleep in sin and wake up in sin. This is our way of life.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23).

However, those of us who have received the gift of God are no more sinners but saints. We do not live in sin 24/7 even though we may sin. When we sin we go to the Father and repent of that sin and keep going on in the righteousness we have received through the laying down of the life of Jesus Christ on the cross, which is the free gift from God the father. There is no sin that the cross of Jesus Christ cannot hinder for the Father to forgive. There is no sin. Therefore if you are a believer or Christian who has given his or her life to God the father through Jesus Christ His son you are a saint and you are no more a sinner because you have been bought with a price and you have been sealed with a seal. You belong to God the father now and sin is not in your DNA because of the DNA of Jesus Christ which runs through your veins.

For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s (1 Corinthians 6:20).

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:13).

Now that you know a little of who you are in Christ Jesus and what has been given to you let’s continue with persistence in prayer. We see according to the word of God that our sins are remembered no more. If our sins are not the reason why our prayers are not answered, then what is the reason? There could be different reasons why our prayers are not answered but we will be looking at the word from Psalms 37 that we read earlier.

What does delight mean? It means to please (someone) greatly. The psalmist says if we delight in the Lord He will give us the desires of our heart. How beautiful is that, knowing that the desire of your heart will be granted unto you. This is the word of God and not the theology of any man. God is saying if you please me I will give you the desire of your heart.

Again let us put this into its right perspective. Recall that the 3rd reason why we pray is that our joy may be full. Jesus Christ was telling the disciples to ask concerning spiritual things that will make their faith walk more confident and not the carnal things of this world. As we discussed earlier about self-denial.

The questions we need to ask ourselves are what pleases the Lord? And how do I know I’m pleasing the Lord? When the desire of your heart or the persistence of your prayer has been granted to you and answered, this is how we know we are pleasing the Lord. We should not become confused with those that are worthy amongst us and are able to afford the desire of their heart claiming it’s the provision from the Lord. For example someone may give a testimony; I wanted to travel the world and God made it possible. The question we should ask ourselves is this, who benefits from travelling the world, the self or the spirit? Did he or she win souls for the kingdom or where was God in all of this?

There are so many of us believers or Christians who claims that the Lord is blessing them and giving them their heart desires, all of which self is the benefactor of these so called blessings. You who is pleasing God becomes anxious to be blessed according to the flesh/ self and not the spirit! Your prayer becomes a prayer for the things of the flesh rather than the things of the spirit!

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith (Galatians 6:7-10).

If your delight is in the Lord we can declare to you today that you are next in line for a blessing. Remember to keep sowing to the spirit and not to the self or flesh. Be patient and unwavering. The widow we read about in the parable Jesus Christ was talking about did not waver but was diligent in her pursuit for justice. If our delight is in the Lord and we are persistent in our prayer concerning the things of the spirit and denying the workings of the flesh in our body members, we can be assured that the desire of our heart will be granted unto us.

Posted in Why do Christians or believers pray?

Reason Five why believers or Christians pray: We pray in order to overcome every anxiety attack from the self or the evil one.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4: 6 – 7).

Medical news today defines anxiety as a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome.

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/info/anxiety/

Anxiety is a general term for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying. These disorders affect how we feel and behave, and they can manifest real physical symptoms. Mild anxiety is vague and unsettling, while severe anxiety can be extremely debilitating, having a serious impact on daily life.

People often experience a general state of worry or fear before confronting something challenging such as a test, examination, recital, or interview. These feelings are easily justified and considered normal. Anxiety is considered a problem when symptoms interfere with a person’s ability to sleep or otherwise function. Generally speaking, anxiety occurs when a reaction is out of proportion with what might be normally expected in a situation.

Anxiety disorders can be classified into several more specific types. The most common are briefly described below.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Separation Anxiety Disorder

Can you believe what you just read? You have specific types that relates to this disorder. We can say praise the Lord for giving us the answer to anxiety which is to pray and not to be anxious. Let’s read the word of God again in Philippians 4:6-7 quoted above.

We discussed in the 4th reason why we pray about the self and the spirit. We know that it is the self (flesh) which throws tantrums all over the place because it wants to feel safe and be comfortable. It became anxious because it cannot see beyond the physical reality that is manifested before its eyes. Unlike the flesh, the spirit is not moved by what it sees in the physical but knows the peace of God will guard her mind through Jesus Christ.

So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:6-8).

Going back to the first reason why we as believers or Christians pray. We talked about God becoming our Father and this is the only way we can know and communicate with Him. Because God is a Spirit that means when we give our lives to Jesus Christ or when we accept Him as our Lord and Saviour, we become a spirit being within a physical body and not the other way around.

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24).

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law (Galatians 5:16 – 18).

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin (Romans 6:1 – 7).

Every believer or Christian must desire to walk in the spirit. Failure to do so will leave you with anxiety disorder. You may say like others, it’s not a bad thing if I have a mental disability for it is a part of the society we live in today. People are cared for when they have disability and we agree with you in this regards. Notwithstanding, we will ask this question is this the will of God for you? We discussed that the 2nd reason why Christians pray is for the will of God to be done on earth as it is in heaven. And I can assure you that it is not the will of God for you to have an anxiety disorder. That’s why we were told not be anxious for nothing but with prayer and supplication we should make our request known unto God. And the peace of God which passes all understanding will keep our heart and mind and this is the will of God for you. Let us look at what the bible says; For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (1 Timothy 1:7).

This is the word of God for us. We have not been given anxiety which the bible will identify as a spirit. But we have been given power, love and a sound mind and this is the will of God for every believer or Christian, and this is the will of God for the world also.

The world can live free of anxiety if she is willing to pray to God, if she is willing to accept God’s love and provision for her which is through Jesus Christ, if she is willing she will be delivered from the spirit of anxiety. As we read from the medical news, anxiety has little foxes and branches that she spreads. Anxiety can become more serious and affect the daily living of an individual and by extension a family or community.

God before the foundation of the world revealed the cure for anxiety to the church. We can be cured or healed from the illness of anxiety and for all those who believe in the word of God they can be healed and saved from anxiety. If you believe in Jesus Christ and you are suffering from the spirit of anxiety or from this mental illness you need to ask yourself why am I suffering from this illness? If we have the cure for this illness why am I as a believer or a Christian having anxiety?

In reason four we saw that the flesh fights against the spirit and the spirit against the flesh. Therefore the problem could be if you are a believer or a Christian and has anxiety then self or flesh is in control of your life and not the spirit which is to receive the peace of God that passes all understanding. We are not discussing walking in the spirit but we will give you a head’s up and how you can begin to walk in the spirit.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2).

If you want to begin to walk in the spirit you first need to renew your mind. This is for all who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord into your life you can do so now by saying Father God I am a sinner, and today I believe that You have shown me your love by sending Your son Jesus Christ to die for my sins. I believe Jesus Christ is the son of God, He suffered and died, and was buried. On the third day He rose from the grave. And He ascended into heaven and is seated at Your right hand. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for saving me. Amen. By faith you are now saved, and we would like to encourage you to begin to read your bible and join a bible- believing church that will help grow your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Now that you are saved you can also begin to claim the will of God according to the word of God for you such as Philippians 4: 6 – 7 and 1 Timothy 1:7. Make the scripture personal. For God has not given me the spirit of fear. Whenever you find yourself becoming anxious then it’s time to begin to pray as the word of God has said.

This is a serious battle but it can be fought and won. The bible says;

And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the LORD to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s (2 Chronicles 20:15).

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me (Galatians 2:20).

See from today that the battle is not yours because the life you now live is by faith in Jesus Christ who is the son of God. Anxiety is not a part of the DNA of Jesus Christ therefore it will leave your body as long as the DNA of Jesus Christ is running through your vain. This is why the believer or the Christian ought to pray not to be anxious and not to become possessed with anxiety.

Reason four of the twelve reasons why Christians pray so that we do not enter into temptation

praying-hands 2INTRODUCTION

In order for us to discuss why Christians pray we first need to look at what is prayer? Prayer is talking with God. We believe prayer is a two-way street and not a one-way street. If you are a Christian that means your prayer should have a two-way transaction. It does not matter what kind of prayer you are praying, whether a prayer of adoration, thanksgiving, confession, supplication or petition and other similar prayers, your act of prayer should anticipate the involvement of God the Father through Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit ministering back to you when you have prayed. Note that we are using the words believers or Christians which is based on how the individual who has given his or her life to Jesus Christ sees himself or herself. The phrase Christian or believer is also used by the world to identify those who are following or believe in the doctrines of Jesus Christ.

Why do the believer or Christian pray? So that we do not enter into temptation

In Luke 22: 40 Jesus said to his disciples, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

What is temptation? Temptation is the desire to do something, especially something wrong or unwise. Or a thing that attracts or tempts someone.

When it comes to temptation, the words of Jesus Christ are very strong in regards to this subject matter. This is how Jesus puts it.

You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell (Matthew 5:27 – 30).

We know that Jesus was not speaking literally for us to pluck out our eyes and become disabled with the sense of seeing. His figurative speech speaks of one having to turn away his or her eyes from the desire to do wrong. If your eyes find it hard without lusting after a man or a woman, this means you will have to stop looking at the opposite sex. Until you can be empowered to look at the opposite sex without lusting.

Many of us today do not know about the power of the self and what it will do to entrap itself to temptation. The apostle Paul tried to explain in the epistle of the book of Romans chapter seven, the dominating effect of the self over the body.

For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members (Romans 7:14 – 23).

What we just read, we understand that the apostle Paul attributed sin to the flesh which is actually self. That means wherever we read flesh we should change it to self or where he says it is not I but sin. Sin here is referring to self and I is referring to his spirit, for example; Romans 7:17 – But now, it is no longer I (Paul speaks of his spirit) who do it, but sin (Paul speaks of his self) that dwells in me. Therefore we can say in the writing of the apostle Paul, he address the self as the flesh.

Galatians 5:17 – For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

According to the passage in Galatians we just read we see the flesh against the spirit, which is actually yourself against your spirit. The flesh is the embodiment for both self (soul) and the spirit. The soul is the powerhouse for both the self and the spirit. Let’s put it in the simplest form. When we are born again we begin to live life from the spirit. And when we were sinners we lived life from the self. We hope these passages of scriptures will help to give us understanding as we look at why believers pray in order for us not to fall into temptation.

In John 3:6 Jesus said, that which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you (Romans 8:1-11).

These verses in the book of Romans are classic examples, even though they speak of the flesh which is the self of man. Why is it important for us to have an understanding between the flesh (self) and the spirit? The importance of understanding is to empower us as believers to operate from the spirit rather than the flesh or self which is the target house of the devil. The devil attacks the flesh (self) because it is the weaker part of us. This is why he will use temptation as a bait for the self. The temptation will always be appealing to the self. Let us look at the temptation of Jesus Christ in the wilderness.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”

Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’”Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”

Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you,Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him (Matthew 4:1 – 11).

Let us ask ourselves the question who did the tempter target? The flesh which is the self or the spirit? First temptation turn these stones into bread because you are hungry. Who was hungry? Because Jesus had been in prayer for forty days His spirit was about to overcome this temptation. That is why He give us this reason to pray that we will not fall into temptation. If you are a believer I’m sure you are so glad that by praying you are sure to become an overcomer over every temptation from the evil one. Pray that you may not enter into temptation.

Twelve reasons why Christians or believers pray- reason three

praying-hands 2

INTRODUCTION

Why do believers or Christians pray? Reason three of the twelve reasons why Christians pray is so that our joy may be full.

In John 16:23 – 24 Jesus said, and in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

The fullness of the joy of the believer or Christian is related on his receiving from the Father what he or she has asked. We believe that many of the believers or Christians always have a long list of things they want or need. Therefore we find ourselves always asking so that our joy may be full.

I am a believer when it comes to asking anything in the name of Jesus you will receive it from the Father. Jesus didn’t say the Father will say no, wait or yes. Jesus Christ said you will receive, that means yes. Ask and you will receive that your joy may be full.

Why do I believe in what Jesus Christ has said to us, ask and you will receive? Firstly, when a believer is praying, he or she should be praying according to the will of the Father for their life. You cannot be praying Father tell me when the rapture will take place when you know Jesus Christ said ‘but of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only’ (Matthew 24:36).

Secondly, we need to understand from the text what was happening on the scene at the time before Jesus Christ said to the disciples ask anything in my name and the Father will do it. Let us have a read.

Then some of His disciples said among themselves, “What is this that He says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because I go to the Father’?” They said therefore, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is saying.”

Now Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, “Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’? Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. A woman, when she is in labour, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.

“And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full (John 16:17 – 24).

We understand according to the scriptures the disciples had the desire to know and understand what Jesus Christ was saying. Because they desired to understand the deep saying of Jesus Christ, Jesus said to them ask the Father anything concerning me you will receive the answer. Whatever you are meditating on and you lack understanding that is about Jesus Christ ask the Father right now and you will receive a revelation from the Holy Spirit about Jesus Christ.

Many thought (of which I was a part), that Jesus Christ was speaking about our needs and wants that pertains to the flesh. That would be a contradiction when He spoke to them saying, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me (Matthew 16:24).

If we can understand we will not be deceived. Jesus Christ will not tell you to ask anything in His name when He has said to us if we want to be His followers and disciples we should deny ourselves. Self is our greatest enemy that exist between us and the Holy Spirit.

When it comes to our needs and wants this is what Jesus Christ says in the gospel of Matthew.

Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble (Matthew 6:25 – 34).

Today our desire is after the flesh and not after the spirit. Jesus Christ is saying to you and me, if we desire to know Him and have an understanding we can ask the Father and we will receive from the Father that our joy may be full. If you have not yet asked, ask now that your joy may be full.

Why do Christians or believers pray? – Reason Two

praying-hands 2

INTRODUCTION

REASON TWO

Why do believers or Christians pray? Reason two of the twelve reasons why Christians pray is so that the will of the Father may be done.

When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray, Jesus gave them a pattern for them to pray. Which is recorded in the book of Matthew 6: 10 – Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Jesus said to the disciples you should pray for the will of the Father to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Many may believe that because God is Omnipotent, which means God is all powerful, His will, will always be done whether we pray for it to be done or not. If this was the case our Lord would not have taught us to pray for the will of our Father who is God to be done on the earth as it is done in heaven. If we are told to pray for the Father’s will to be done that means there are other wills that will be done if we do not pray for the Father’s will to be done.

Firstly, if we do not pray for the father’s will to be done then the devil’s will, will be done. In 1 Peter 5:8 the bible says, be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. The will of the devil is to destroy us. And because we lack knowledge we sometimes believe it is the will of God for us to suffer, and live a life devoid of love, joy, peace and so on.

Secondly, if we do not pray the father’s will to be done, then your will and mine will, will be done. Our father God’s will for us is life in abundance through Jesus Christ our Lord. When we reject this knowledge we will live a miserable life.

Hosea 4: 6 – My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

Jesus taught the disciples to pray that the will of God be done on earth as it is in heaven. You may or may not know that God has a divine will for all mankind. And this will is for mankind to have everlasting life. This is the will of God for mankind as revealed from the genesis of mankind. Even though mankind fell this divine will of God has not and will never change. When mankind sinned God put His salvation plan into motion for mankind to still have the opportunity to experience and live this life to the full. This is why Jesus Christ said I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10).

Also there is what we call the permissive will of God which you can see clearly in the book of Job when God gave the devil permission to test Job. If you are a child of God the will of God for you is in the word of God which is the bible. If you are not a child of God you can also see the will of God for you in the bible. For example, let’s start with the one who is not a child of God. What is the will of God for his or her life? Let see what the word of God say concerning you.

2 Peter 3:8 – 9 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us,not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

As you just read that God is not willing that you should perish but come to repentance.  Also you can see according to the word of God that God resists the proud. In the book of Daniel chapter four when Lucifer became proud, God resisted him. The one who is not a child of God cannot see more of the will of God for them besides the will of God for them to repent and be saved. But they can see more of the will of the devil for their lives as seen in the gospel of John 10:10 – The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.

But Jesus Christ the son of God made it possible for us to be safe from the will of the evil one if we can only believe.

That whoever believes in Him should not perish buthave eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved (John 3:15 – 17).

You see in the word of God that the divine will of God for you and me is still the same. What we need to do is to believe in the lord Jesus Christ who is the son of God to have this everlasting life which is the divine will of God for us.

If you are already a child of God which means you have already receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour the will of God for you can be seen clearly in the word of God.

Romans 12:2 – And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

After we have been born again, the first will of God for our lives is for us to not be conformed to this world and that our mind may be renewed. Failure to do this renewing and transforming of our mind will lead to our will being done than the will of God the father. The renewing of our mind is a vital part for us to understand and know what the will of God is.

The first reason why believers pray is because it is the act of communicating to our Father. The more we can cultivate intimacy between us and our heavenly Father the more confident we can become to trusting Him with our lives. The following bible verses encourage us to do so.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).

In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13).

For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men (1 Peter 2:15).

Many times we are not willing to give God thanks in everything as children of God, because we are not or have not yet desired the will of the Father to be done on earth as in heaven as Jesus Christ taught us to pray.

And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done (Luke 22: 41 – 42).

Jesus Christ knowing what He was about to go through prayed that the cup be taken away but because His will was the will of the Father, He said let your will be done and not mine. This is why we pray and this is why we need to pray that the will of the Father be done. Not our will, not the will of the devil, but the will of God the father who loves us and wants us to have eternal life and live with Him forever and ever and ever, amen.

Twelve reasons why believers or Christians pray

INTRODUCTION

  1. REASON 1.Why do Christians pray? Reason one of the twelve reasons why Christians pray is because praying is the foundation for communication between God the father and His children, as an earthly father keeps conversation with his son or daughter. First, when anyone asks the question why believers or Christians pray, it is similar to asking the question why a child speaks to his father. Or what is a child doing speaking to his parents? So is it in the case where someone is asking the question why do believers or Christians pray? If God is the Father of the believer that means the believer will have to speak to his Father because there is a relationship between the believer and his Father who is God. Can you imagine how odd it would be when a father and his son or daughter lives in one house and they are not speaking to each other? No one would want to experience such a life. When we become born again and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour into our life God becomes our Father. This is what Jesus Christ said; Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven (Matthew 23:9).

Because God is not like our earthly fathers who are also sinners like ourselves, even though they are loving and caring as we may know them to be. Nevertheless, if our earthly dads are loving and caring then we want you to multiply that love and care by a hundred times and see if you can have a clue to how much care and love your heavenly Father wants to lavish on you who have accepted His love which He shows through Jesus Christ for you and also how God the Father wants to lavish this His love and care on all of mankind.

Now God is our Father we have to speak and communicate to Him and this is the foundation of the act of prayer for the believer or Christian. If the foundation of the believer or Christian act of prayer has been founded on anything else other than a father and son (daughter) relationship it is likely for that believer or Christian to have a one-way street prayer life. Imagine a one-way street conversation or relationship. You are doing all of the talking and when you are through, you shut the door on the Father and walk away. How will you feel when it is happening to you? Even though you want to speak to your child concerning the subject matter he or she shuts the door before your face and says to you thank you dad for the provision or blessings and so on. The act of prayer for the believer or the Christian should be cultivated and manifested through the father and son or father and daughter relationship. And this is the foundation on which we ought to pray.
